Arumugam and Parasuraman focus on enhancing the monitoring of ships by evaluating operational performance parameters through ship-attached sensors. The data is then transmitted to the cloud via an Internet of Things (IoT) Module. To optimize the efficiency of this data transfer, the paper introduces a Whale Optimization Algorithm-based Radial Basis Function Neural Network (WOA-RBFNN). Additionally, a 128-bit Two Fish Algorithm-based key management system is proposed to address security concerns, providing enhanced data protection.
The motivation for this research arises from the growing reliance on information and communication technologies in the maritime industry, particularly in global trade. The integration of these technologies generates vast amounts of data within marine trading systems, necessitating robust security measures. The paper emphasizes the need for cybersecurity to ensure the confidentiality of transmitted data and protection against potential cyber threats.
The contributions of the proposed work include the introduction of an effective cybersecurity system for maritime applications, utilizing sensors to collect real-time data for comprehensive vessel performance assessment. The hybrid WOA-RBFNN classifier optimizes the selection of the shortest path for reliable data transmission to the cloud, improving efficiency by optimizing throughput, determining optimal paths, reducing energy consumption, minimizing overhead, and decreasing transfer delays. The Two Fish-based 128-bit key management enhances data protection during the transfer process, guarding against cyber threats and unauthorized access. Validation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed work with improved outputs for throughput, delay, packet delivery, and energy consumption.
In summary, the paper proposes an IoT-based optimized key management scheme for secure data transmission, addressing cyber-attacks in the maritime industry. The incorporation of WOA-RBFNN and Two Fish Algorithm enhances the efficiency and security of information transmission between ships and the cloud.
