In a recent interview, Chen Jiping, General Manager at the China Classification Society (CCS) Dubai, emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity in the evolving maritime industry. With digitalization accelerating across the sector, he highlighted the growing risks posed by cyber threats and CCS’s proactive approach to addressing them.
“As digitalization reshapes maritime operations, ensuring cyber resilience is no longer optional. At CCS, we strive to provide technical expertise, compliance support, and training to safeguard our industry” Chen stated.
Chen outlined several initiatives CCS has developed to enhance maritime cybersecurity:
- Cybersecurity Status Testing Platform: A tool designed to evaluate ships’ current cybersecurity capabilities and pinpoint vulnerabilities.
- Comprehensive Cybersecurity Guidelines: These resources help shipowners and operators comply with international cyber resilience standards.
- Training and Awareness Programs: Tailored sessions to educate crew members and stakeholders about cyber risks and mitigation strategies.
Chen also highlighted the work being done by CCS Dubai to address the specific needs of the Middle East maritime sector. By offering locally adapted cybersecurity solutions, CCS Dubai aims to enhance operational safety and foster sustainable growth for the region’s shipping industry.
